THE WOODEN SWORDS CHAPTER 12. - A SPY!

Finally it was the weekend again and we were sitting in the treehouse doing the usual things. The emergency meeting had been pointless, although we did get to spend a few hours playing knights in the garden until my mum's curfew arrived at eight and Ralph wasn't too sick to walk all the way home.

Adam and George had been working on some battle tactics together and were showing me some of their plans with my plastic toy soldiers that I had brought along to the HQ. Perry and James were carefully practicing karate moves they had seen in a film the night before, Ralph was munching from a large bag of cheese and onion crisps, Anne was telling him to stop eating the crisps because it wasn't healthy for a soldier and Timmy was practicing his declaration of war speech.

- Ladies and gentlemen of the United Nations.

- ka ki koi!

- What’s that?

- Japanese!

- Why Japanese?

- You need more men attacking!

- Crunch, crunch!

- Karate is Japanese.

- A whole bag is disgusting!

- Zantinuiba has to be friends with Makabama!

- Is this Japanese?

- No, you can't have any.

- Where are the horses?

- Switzerland is here! Make peace!

- I don’t have horses. Firemen don’t have horses!

Timmy’s mother appeared at the bottom of the ladder and shouted up to us.

- There is a boy here to see you all!

James had failed to spot this visitor arriving and I was a bit angry he had messed up his look out job, but we had to find out you this boy was first.

- Hi!

It was Tommy. Tommy is not one of our friends. He lives in Pine Street near the school, but goes to a different place than us. We used to play together in the summers before we went to separate schools. Tommy is really good at making horse sounds, which is why we used to play Cowboys and Indians a lot back then.

- Hi Tommy.

- I heard you screaming from the back yard and I came to check what you doing.

- Just playing.

- Just playing?

- Yep! Just playing.

- Can I play?

- No!

I forgot to say something vary important here. His two older brothers go to a different school, which is why he goes to another place. He goes to the same school as the kids of from Elm Street.

- Why not?

- It is our secret HQ!

- Shut up, Ralph!

- I want to see it!

- No you don’t!

- Ha! You're playing with a girl!

- I am a doctor!

- Hey! You leave my sister alone. I am her bodyguard.

- So, you are the Knights of Princess Lane?

- The Knights of Kings Road!

- I have heard everything about you!

- What?

- I know all about your secret HQ. Everybody knows.

- No they don't. You only found out because Ralph told you. I bet you're a spy for the cowboys.

- Cowboys are much better. They have guns and you only have little wooden swords.

- Shut up!

- I'm going to tell the cowboys all about your secret HQ and they'll probably chop it down!

- That's it! BEGGARS!!!

Luckily for Tommy he ran as fast as he could back to the street before Adam could catch him.

- We need a spy!
