Vigil #poem by Abigail George

I feel sad
But why do I feel sad Seeker
Just look at what I have achieved
The impossible
The Elder and the Historian both shook their heads
You are thinking
in linear equations my child
Look at this. Just look at all
the possibilities in the universe

Perhaps the conversation between the Mumin and the Creator
went something like this
We are a brotherhood
We are a sisterhood
We are the Islamic Nation, the mighty wildflowers seem to say
in the flow and ebb
of the face of pre-imminent brutality
Of the extreme nature of violence
This exists where the children used to play
Where the leaf used to fall
from the river to the sea
GIve us our land
The land of the dispossessed
All I see are forced removals
The human stain of apartheid
Mandela’s grandson chanting,
Free, free Palestine
The world as we know it coming to an end
This is what I know.
