What Poets Need #Poem by Abigail George

Maybe I need
to see mountains and trees

Maybe I need
to read more love poems,

instead
of sad poems,
political poems,
war poems,

And instead of writing poems about children
being born in refugee camps,

children playing with guns,
children dying to belong

Maybe I need
to fall in love
with mountains and trees

Maybe I need
to go to the sea
and immerse myself in the saltwater,

feel it against my skin

Yes, every poet
needs to be reminded

of the gentle hands
of their mother,

of their grandmother
wiping their nose
