Deep dark velvet,
Tobacco, chocolate,
Haunting,primordial,
Vital,wild, alive;
Lazarus,
Can you hear me?
I hear the music
Under the celestial sky,
Mystical, floating over
The sounds of jackhammers
Outside tearing up the city,
Tearing up its soul.
While the battered scarecrow
With the vacant eyes hangs like
Some crucified Jesus
In a cornfield on a farm
Outside the city limits
With black crows perched
On his shoulders
In the flapping breeze
Ready to dispense salvation;
He can't help you now,
Lazarus,
Are you there?
The curtains billow,
And the tobacco smells
Mingle with chocolate
And the coffee stains
With dapples of light
Dancing on her sleeping
Arse cheek
On deep dark velvet
And I stare outside
At the city of the damned;
Lazarus,
Are you there?
We're coming.
