THE WOODEN SWORDS CHAPTER 14. - WE HAVE A SPY!

- I will go, Alex!

- What?

- I’m the ambassador! I will go and negotiate with the cowboys tomorrow!

- Hmm!

I thought it was an excellent idea, but I didn't want to say so before considering all the options and discussing it with the others.

- I don't know, Ralph. It might be dangerous.

- I'll go with a white flag.

- Why?

- A white flag means I come in peace.

- Oh, will they know that? They are only cowboys.

- Good point. Actually, I don't have a white flag anyway.

- What are you talking about?

- Timmy wants to negotiate with the kids of Elm Street!

- Aren't you scared, Timmy?

- Definitely not, Anne. Ambassadors have to negotiate with anybody, so there is no room for fear.

- Wow! I'd be really scared going alone to another road where one hundred cowboys are preparing for war.

- Are you okay, Timmy? You have lost some colour in your cheeks.

- I'm, I'm just hungry, Anne.

- Hey everybody! Timmy is going to negotiate with all those angry cowboys tomorrow.

- Excellent! What are you going to say to them?

- I, I don't know yet.

- Are you feeling ok, Timmy?

- I'm just tired from all the playing. I think I might go to bed a bit early tonight.

- Good idea. You'll need all your energy tomorrow to face the enemy. Come on, let's go! Timmy needs to get some rest before his big day.

- Bye, Timmy!

- Good luck!

- Tell us what happens as soon as you can!

- Watch your back!

While we walked back home together, we kept talking about what Timmy might say to the cowboys and what might happen. We were a bit worried about Timmy, but he seemed so brave and knew all about what ambassadors should do.

- When shall we meet tomorrow to hear Timmy's report, Alex?

- Oh no! I can't come tomorrow. We are going to visit my uncle and aunt all day.

- Yeah, we're going out for the day to visit our grandparents too.

- It's so unfair. We spend all week at school and then one of our free days is used visiting people.

- I'm not visiting anyone, but Mum says I've got to help Dad sort out the junk in the garage.

- Don't you parents keep the car in the garage?

- No, they keep that on the drive and keep junk in the garage. I don't understand.

- I have got loads of homework to finish.

- Didn't you do it on Friday night, Ralph?

- Umm, no. Did you?

- No! Okay, we'll meet after school on Monday.

- Where?

- Alex’s house!

- No way, Ralph! My mum said that she has had enough with all these meetings for now!

- But…

- It's your fault! Did you have to eat all the biscuits?

- They were on the table!

- Yes, but you ate the ones in the cupboard as well.

- I was hungry!

- You are always are hungry!

- You need a doctor! Open your mouth and say, 'Ah!'

- Stop it, Anne!

- Mum told me to tell you that you should diet.

- I’m not fat!

- I didn't say you were, but you did eat all the biscuits.

- A-ha! We could have the meeting at my house.

- Are you sure, James?

- Dad won't be home until five, my sister just stays in her room listening to music and Mum won't mind, as long as we are quiet.

- Will there be snacks?

- Ralph!
