New Year #poem & #painting by Nikos Laios

Ruffled and red,
Corpulent and jolly,
The aged dandy
Laughed and drank
With his friends,

The champagne
Flowed with the music
On a cold winter’s night,
And he celebrated the death
Of the old and the birth of the new,
For though he had lived much and seen
Much he awaited the new year with joy,
For he still held much hope for mankind.
