Death #poem & #painting by Nikos Laios

I walked
With death
Into a bar
And drank some gin,
We played some poker
And stuffed some dancing
Dollars into the g-strings
Of some strippers.

Death got into a fight
With some bouncers
At the door, we left
And hit a Jazz bar.

We sunk
Into a corner booth
And drank absinthes,
And the green fairy
Danced on our tongues
All night and we listened to
The soulful blonde
Belt out some love songs,
With her blueeye
Shadow glowing
Under the
Spotlights.

We discussed
Existentialism,
Poetry and the
Meaning of life,
The merits of
Picasso over Miró.

We met some women
And danced with them,
And death was quite fond
Of a leggy red-head that
He was dancing with,
He managed to get her number,
Death could be very smooth
When he was drunk.

Sloshed and swaying,
Four in the morning
At the taxi rank;
Death slapped me
On the back and thanked
Me for a great night,
And said he will be back
To see me again someday.

I asked death
Where he was going ,
And death said
He had a morning
Breakfast date with Charon,
And rolled his eye sockets;
He thought Charon was an
Asshole, and that ferrymen
In general sucked,
But in the underworld,
Beggars can’t be choosers
In regards to friends.

I slumped into a cab
And I threw my head
Back onto the seat,
And the window was open,
And the air rushed
Through the window blowing
My hair, and I thought that
Death was a riot,
A barrel of laughs;
I would see him again one
Day, and that was fine.
