Beyond our wisdom
we follow signs
most readily;
antiquity is inherited,
and generally shallow,
yet we rely on its lessons
as construed by signifiers.
strike a personality,
and a god will reveal
the true word
for any private cause:
forgive and forget
an eye for an eye
kill or be killed
steal or have stolen,
give to me --- same as him,
he wants it that way,
and always
defend your god
right or wrong
to the end;
heaven is your reward.
hell will be
what’s left behind,
a fool’s game indeed.
let the priests and politicians
interpret the scriptures,
it is their nature;
let us simply
write our own script
and cherish the journey.
