Jazz Beats #Poem & #Painting by Nikos Laios

The night was cool
And the reflections of the
Full moon and neon lights
Wobbled in a puddle of
Rainwater on paving stones
In a back alleyway behind
A jazz club.

The muffled sounds of
Snare drums and saxophones
Drifted outside mingling with
The aroma of a Cuban cigar,
And I stood there lost in a
Coltrane melody with the
Stars twinkling above me
Between buildings illuminated
By ancient neon signs flashing
From rooftops and I thought how
Perfect this moment is.

Lost deep in the rhapsody
Of a big city that has lived,
Warm with the collected
Memories of past generations
Of men and women and
Tonight I left behind
A piece of my own soul,
Mingling with all of
The other souls
And memories
Preserved
In jazz beats
And neon lights.
