Inferno #Poem & #Painting by Nikos Laios

In the bowels of the city,
Seething and surging,
They raged, laughed and cried,
They got sucked into the
Steel, glass and concrete
Guts of a metropolis,

Anonymous men and women
Consumed, digested and
Discharged out like waste
Into the dustbin of history,
The inferno rumbling on
Over the face of the Earth
Like a parasite slowly sucking,
Eating everything in its path,
While the poor and downtrodden
Of the world fleeing from
Lust, greed and war
Feed themselves into
The machine as sacrificial
Offerings having sold
Their souls, while the
Light of humanity,
Shining in the cosmos
Like a beacon
Slowly fades
Away.
