High Priestess #Poem & #Painting by Nikos Laios

Shall the high priestesses
Even speak to us again?
Will they ever return to the
Sacred alters and temples,
Valleys and groves?

Are we still caught in
The spell of this rude
Semitic God,
His Prophets
And his saints?

Shall we continue to
Kiss the hands of
Decrepit old men
On their golden
Thrones proclaiming
That they are the voices
Of a Middle Eastern God?

Shall we ever
Wake up from
This hallucination?

We have banished
Women for too long now
From the sacred places.

I walk through the ruins
Of Grecian temples
And ask, shall the
High priestesses
Ever speak to
Us again?
