Merlin Moore Taylor was born on October 5, 1886, in Batesville, Arkansas. His father, Reverend James Jackson Taylor (1855-1924), was a missionary and a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Reverend Taylor went back and forth between the United States and Brazil during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
